Holy Objects – Rosaries, Prayer Cards, Medals

You may want Rosaries with you not only for group and personal prayer, but you may also wish to touch them (when allowed) to some of the holy places and shrines visited during your Franciscan Holy land Pilgrimage. In addition, you may wish to consider bringing (or purchasing to support Christian Artisans in the Holy Land) other religious items such as olive wood crosses, saint medals and prayer cards.

Pilgrims often find it important to bring a favorite rosary or medal with them, not only for personal prayer, but to touch the stones at the various shrines (when permitted). There will be selected opportunities along the way, chosen by your guide, to purchase articles from local artisans. This is one great way to support the Christians of the Holy Land.

Journal and Pens

Pilgrimage is much more than a physical journey, it is a spiritual one. Keeping a travel journal is one way to log memories as well as process special spiritual moments.

Universal Adapter Plug

Keeping your electronic devices charged will be important for capturing your special moments as well as connecting with loved ones at home. The electrical outlets and voltages in foreign countries are not always compatible with American devices. Universal adapters and conversion plugs are available online and at many retailers.

Maximum Sun Protection

Consider packing a wide-brimmed hat that is easy to store in your day bag. If prescription sunglasses are not necessary, bring along a couple pairs of inexpensive sunglasses. Lastly, bring plenty of sunscreen with a high SPF. These are all crucial and simple ways to protect yourself from the intense Middle Eastern sun.

Camera and extra Memory Card

You won’t want to miss a single moment of your Franciscan Holy Land Pilgrimage. To assure all those special memories arrive safely back home with you, consider bringing an extra memory card for your camera. This is a good practice even if your camera is part of your mobile device.

Various Packaged Wipes

There are pre-packaged wipes for every situation. Pack a ziplock bag with wipes for cleaning and sanitizing, as well as ones containing sunscreen and insect repellent. They are lighter to carry than bottled products and typically pose no problem with airport security.

Comfortable Rubber Soled Shoes and Extra Socks

Pilgrimages involve lots of walking so it’s important to take care of your feet. If you plan to purchase new sneakers or shoes for the trip, be sure to wear them before your trip to break them in. Another important aspect of foot care is keeping your feet dry. An easy way to keep feet in tiptop walking shape is to have an extra pair of socks with you. Pack a pair or two in your day bag, maybe even consider throwing in a bandaid or two.
